Happy Wednesday my friends,

Does today not feel like we are in a sci-fi movie? The colours, the smoke, all of it, so crazy! Stay safe while having a great time.

I promise I’ll share about Dinner Club and more next week. Until then, enjoy the rhythm of our region.

with love,

your friendly neighbourhood goose 🦆

ON THE RADAR

YOUTH FOOD MARKET

Some local high schoolers spent their spring planting vegetables in six school gardens, and now they're selling them. Not a fundraiser table with a parent hovering nearby. The teens run the whole thing, from setup to the cash box.

You pay what you choose. There's no set price, so a bag of beans costs whatever you've got that week. Good food shouldn't depend on which week of the month it is.

They're out every Wednesday July 15 through August 26, here’s where to find them:

  • Eastwood Collegiate Institute, 760 Weber St. W, Kitchener, 4:00 to 6:00pm

  • Victoria Hills Community Centre, 10 Chopin Dr, Kitchener, 4:00 to 6:00pm

  • Fiddlesticks Community Centre, 71 Cowan Blvd, Cambridge, 3:00 to 5:30pm

OUR SKY TURNED ORANGE

If you stepped outside today and the air tasted like a campfire, you weren't imagining it.

Our air quality warning went orange this morning and the health index hit 10+, the top of the scale. Not a chart you want to top.

None of it started here. It's blowing in from 148 fires in northwestern Ontario, 69 still out of control. Like a neighbour's barbecue smoke, if the neighbour were a thousand kilometres away and the barbecue were the size of a province.

Windows closed, workouts indoors, a proper N95 if you have to be out. Cloth masks don't catch these particles.

If you're older, pregnant, very young, or living with asthma or a heart condition, take tonight and tomorrow easy. Should clear by Friday morning.

AT HOME IN THE REGION

Here’s a fun one from Cheryl Goetz, Real Estate Agent, REAL Broker Ontario Ltd. It’s summer so why not let 🍹 pick home styles 🏡

What’s your drink of choice? And what does it say about your dream home aesthetic? (image links to house styles)

RIDDLE ME

Last week’s trivia: only 46% got it right! My FIFA watching friends Kitchener Market is closed but the common World Cup viewing stays open.

Kitchener Market made headlines this week after a vendor-stall fire (no injuries, ~$50K damage). How long has this market been serving Waterloo Region?
