Happy Wednesday, friends!

Monday, October 26 is election day. If you haven't voted early yet, this is your nudge. Polls are open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and our election cheat sheet has your date, your candidates.

Starting Saturday, you'll see poppies on coats around town, grab one at the grocery store or a coffee shop.

With love,
your friendly neighbourhood goose 🦆

THE HELPFUL WOMAN WHO DIED IN 1947

An older woman in Victorian dress had already helped them, visitors explained.

Except Homer Watson House & Gallery didn’t have anyone working in period costume.

Staff have a name for her. And tomorrow marks 79 years since her death.

Ever had a ghostly encounter you still can’t explain?

It’s only 3 p.m., but your energy has already clocked out.

Another coffee? An early night? You’ve probably heard someone mention B12, too. Correcting low B12 can help tiredness caused by that deficiency. Taking extra when your levels are already adequate hasn’t been shown to give you more energy. That afternoon slump alone doesn’t tell you whether B12 is what you need.

REGION'S RADAR 👀

from around the town

Twelve local artists have turned 4.5-foot fibreglass geese into one-of-a-kind public art, and the whole flock has now landed across Cambridge. You'll find them at spots like Galt Arena Gardens, Dickson Park, the Gaslight District, City Hall, the Farmers Market and the Queen's Square library, plus one on the loose somewhere in Preston Towne Centre. Here is the map

University of Waterloo engineers have made a gel, inspired by how sea cucumbers stiffen and soften their bodies, that could one day help heal torn tendons and other soft tissue. In rats, tendons treated with it grew back stronger and more organized than with stitches alone, and the gel dissolved on its own in about eight weeks. The team has filed two patents and started a company to bring it to patients. Read their paper

Your next yarn run could turn into an afternoon. The Wool Commons is planning a yarn shop, café and workshops at 14 Water Street North in Galt, Cambridge. New project, warm drink, a reason to linger. Opening date still to come.

Wings, poutine and the big question: which sauce? Sauceboss is making a comeback in Preston, Cambridge. Chef Connor Blackmore is aiming for early November beside The Nook Cook House on King Street East. One for the comfort-food list.

UNIQLO is arriving with a drumroll. Literally. The Conestoga Mall opening is Friday, October 30 in Waterloo, with Japanese taiko drumming at 9:40 a.m. before doors open at 10. A little extra reason to get there early.

Your garden might be tucked under snow by the time your home goes up for sale in the winter.

Arranging exterior listing photos before winter, while your yard and landscaping are still visible is what Cheryl suggests. You don’t have to wait until you’re ready to put the house on the market to start that conversation.

A little planning now lets buyers see outdoor spaces the snow could hide.
