A LOT CAN HAPPEN OVER DINNER

Six months ago, I invited you to sign up for dinner without knowing who you'd be sitting with.

Nearly 600 people have done it since.

Some came once. Some keep coming back. Some now recognize each other across tables. And at our August dinner, a bunch of us celebrated a birthday together. People who wouldn't have known each other if they hadn't once decided to show up.

I think that's my favourite part of Dinner Club. You genuinely don't know what will come from one night.

Maybe it's a great conversation. Maybe it's eating a good meal somewhere you've never tried before. Maybe you meet someone you want to grab coffee with again. Maybe it's simply a really fun evening instead of another night at home.

And this month, we are shaking things up.

I've been taking your feedback and I'm trying something different with the matching this time. I'm excited (and very curious) to see what happens.

So, come take a chance on five neighbours friends.

AT HOME IN THE REGION

Cheryl Goetz, Real Estate Agent, REAL Broker Ontario Ltd.’s event: IMPACT is back on September 25, this time talking marketing. A panel of experts in branding, AI and social media will share their insights, followed by purposeful networking, snacks and refreshments.

The evening also gives back, with guests contributing items to support local families through Mamas for Mamas and Marillac Place.

THROUGH YOUR LENS

Summer loosens its hold, as autumn scatters its first hello.
A little red, a little gold, while green still lingers at the edges.

PRINCESS PICKS

Three more reasons to head to Princess Cinema this week:

Armageddon Road (Wednesday only) What happens in Vegas might end the world in this apocalyptic crime comedy, followed by a Q&A with the director.

The Samurai and the Prisoner (opens Saturday) A samurai murder mystery set inside a besieged castle, from acclaimed Japanese director Kiyoshi Kurosawa. It premiered at Cannes and currently holds a 98% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes.

REGION’S RADAR

  • Cambridge is now using a 3D virtual model of the city to show residents exactly how proposed homes will look in their neighbourhood. Read

  • The Kitchener Market expands its interim operations on Sept 5 and is cutting vendor fees while the indoor space stays closed. Read

  • The University of Waterloo signed a long-term deal with Airbus on sustainable aerospace research. Read

  • Drake's OVO brand made a University of Waterloo campus collection, with a pop-up shop opening next week.

  • Conestoga Mall is very soon getting UNIQLO, the Japanese clothing store, in fall of this year.

  • A legendary piece of Waterloo student life is making a comeback: bar service is returning to UW’s Bomber later this fall. Fun fact: long before Bomber Wednesdays, Elton John played five nights there in 1970!

RIDDLE ME

Last week’s trivia: 60% got it right. Same distance between Toronto and Van, Eric’s math worked out and one of us here has actually stood in those forests waiting for them.

Monday's Labour Day picnic is in Waterloo Park. When the park opened in August 1893, it was called something else. What?
