THE HOUSE YOU WENT TO FIRST ON HALLOWEEN
Some Kitchener kids knew exactly where to start trick-or-treating: the candy factory owner’s house. Generous portions of Turkish delight will do that.
This weekend’s plans take a little more choosing. A toddler costume parade? Treats with farm animals? A vampire fashion show? Something your teen insists won’t scare them?
I’ve put together a family Halloween guide, with dates, ages and links, plus a little of Kitchener’s sweeter history.
Which house is legendary for trick-or-treating in your neighbourhood, and why?

with Elev8 Aesthetic Medicine
A treatment menu tells you what a clinic offers. It tells you much less about the person you’ll be talking to.
ELEV8 founder Rinku Dhaliwal started her nursing career in mental health, including working with children. Her path also took her into healthcare policy, a master’s in health administration, and teaching nursing students.
In her account of her approach, she puts understanding a person’s goals and explaining the process at the centre of a consultation.
If you’re curious about the clinic, getting to know the people is a place to start.

You don’t want to discover the fridge doesn’t work while you’re unpacking the groceries.
That’s why Cheryl recommends a final walkthrough before closing. In her recent walkthroughs, she’s found appliances and ventilation systems that weren’t working. Those issues were repaired or buyers were compensated at closing.
Check that included appliances work, look for new damage, and confirm agreed repairs are complete. If something’s wrong, flag it to your agent before closing.

ROAM & RAZZLE
Special events, happenings around town you’d want to check out.
In Quebec, a "cinq à sept" is the after-work hangout that runs from 5 to 7, and on Tuesday the Walper Hotel borrows the idea for a jazz night. The Tim Moher Quartet plays in the second floor lounge with vocalist Jontue Élan up front, co-presented with The Registry Theatre. The cover includes tapas that keeps coming out through the whole show, so it works as dinner and a concert in one go.

RIDDLE ME
Last week's trivia: 59% got it right. Port Arthur, moved its clocks ahead on July 1, 1908, a year after builder William Willett first pitched the idea in London, England.
Halloween is Saturday, so let's talk candy. Which treat in the trick-or-treat bag is made by a company that started in a little Berlin (now Kitchener) grocery store more than 130 years ago?
