AT HOME IN THE REGION:

Things To Consider While Buying Your Home

by Cheryl Goetz, Real Estate Agent, REAL Broker Ontario Ltd.

What I look at while showing houses to buyers, before I even walk in the door.

When most people think of a showing, they think the focus is on interior finishes, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and the age/condition of everything. While all of those are important, there are numerous things my clients don't realize I am asking myself before I walk in.

Here are just a few examples of what to consider beyond the obvious…

What surrounds the home: Is it backing onto a space that could be a future development? Is there a school nearby that will cause a ton of street parking out front? Is there a nearby intersection that can cause idling and honking right outside their front door?

How the neighbourhood feels: Are the neighbours maintaining their yards? Are there people out walking? If my clients have kids, I look for signs of future neighbour friends by way of bikes and play structures. Does it feel congested with narrow roads and street parking, or spacious with wide streets and space on driveways?

Where my clients' go-to amenities are and the route to get to them: How far is the grocery store, their kids' school, hobby locations, work, family, etc., and is the house situated in the neighbourhood where it isn't a pain to get to them?

When looking for your next home, it is crucial to think about your life as a whole there, so don't hold back sharing your life with your Realtor. We use that information to make sure you make the best decision for you, your family, and your goals!and tailored my service accordingly.
